Oklahoma City Zoo

I was very excited to hear that the Oklahoma City Zoo has a lactation room and made a point of visiting recently so that I could photograph it.  Throughout our excursion, I asked several employees of the zoo where I could find the lactation room, or depending on my audience, "the room for breastfeeding mothers." Each of them knew either where it was or how to help me find it.  A couple of the male staff seemed surprised at my question and didn't immediately know what I was talking about, but they were all friendly and supportive of my quest!

The room they showed me was simple, but nice and private.  I was pleased to find that the room has a private bathroom attached.  It is near the entrance, which is not centrally located, so you'll have to plan ahead or take the tram.  The room was pretty small, just large enough for a breastfeeding mom and her young children.  A second adult or a stroller would have made the room a bit of a squeeze.  While I was there, a family was receiving medical help in the room outside of the lactation room.  It wasn't intrusive, but I wanted to mention that the space also serves that function when needed.

The Oklahoma City Zoo is also rumored to have a second, newer lactation station (possibly a dual-purpose diaper change station).  None of the staff pointed me in the direction of this second room and I'm still curious to see if it truly exists.  As always, please post your experiences and comments below!  We're happy to hear from you!

Way to go Will Rogers! This is a very well-planned lactation room, designed with an outlet behind a curtain so that pumping moms can have a little more privacy while breastfeeding moms and children can stay and use the open part of the room! Has anyone had the opportunity to use this room? Share your photos and stories below!
