2019 Strategic Plan

COBA's new strategic plan will guide the organization's growth over the next three to five years.

At a strategic planning session in July of 2019, the Board of Directors of the Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates unanimously voted to adopt a new set of goals and tactics to align COBA’s focus and priorities with our mission and current capacity. 

COBA will focus on building organizational capacity, networking, education, promotion of public awareness, and advocacy for breastfeeding families across the state of Oklahoma. Goal 1: Remove breastfeeding barriers

Objective: Improve the health of the community

Tactics:
a. Provide education (All Avenues)
b. Explore legislation from other states that promote breastfeeding
c. Be visible to the community and to families that are considering or currently breastfeeding
d. Build relationships with supportive agencies, nonprofits, community leaders, foundations and the public.
e. Deliver the same message in all areas of communication

Goal 2: Be known

Objective: Promote, protect, and support breastfeeding

Tactics:
a. Build a consistent social media presence
b. Form a branding committee and a committee charter
c. Build and sustain partnerships/relationship/outreach
d. Share stories through all media platforms
e. Share expertise in all materials and media platforms
f. Create events to build awareness and tap into funding opportunities

Goal 3: Build and form internal organizational structure

Objective: Create clear lines of communication so that everyone is on the same page

Tactics:
a. Committee charters (name committee needs)
b. Identify best communication tools
c. Implement best communication tools
d. Restructure board meetings to improve communication, monitoring and dreaming for the future
e. Review diversity matrix consistently throughout the year

Goal 4: Hire an Executive Director

Objective: Promote and implement programs that further the mission, lead to

accomplishment and increased capacity

​Tactics:
a. Create a job description for the position
b. Establish a budget for position to establish a compensation level
c. Create and write employee policies and handbook
d. Identify a search committee & create committee charter
e. List duties of the position and establish written expectations
f. Manage social media / story collection through the Executive Director
