Volunteer Peer Support

​Volunteer peer breastfeeding support  has been growing in Oklahoma. Mothers value sharing their experiences and insights with each other and learning from accredited counselors. See details of Oklahoma organizations below, and watch this page for new ones taking shape online!

Breastfeeding USA has come to Oklahoma! Breastfeeding Counselors offer evidence-based breastfeeding information and support to women through in-person meetings, by phone, or online as representatives of Breastfeeding USA. Breastfeeding Counselors are linked from this page.

La Leche League has been in Oklahoma since the 1960's. La Leche League International is the umbrella organization, with groups and affiliates in dozens of countries offering support in many languages. La Leche League USA includes La Leche League in Oklahoma, which at this writing has Groups in 12 Oklahoma communities, some with multiple meeting locations and times.  La Leche League Leaders have breastfed their own babies, endorse La Leche League's time-tested philosophy, and undergo specific training in breastfeeding information and support.

Los Lazos de Lactancia (which can be translated “Breastfeeding Bonds”), is a Spanish/English bilingual, intercultural breastfeeding support group based in Eastern Oklahoma. LLDL members share support and information in a Closed Group on Facebook and periodically in person. Any mother who agrees to the Guidelines is welcome to join!

Milk Moms offers free weekly drop-in mother-to-mother breastfeeding support in Oklahoma City facilitated by CLCs/IBCLCs at Thrive Mama Collective, 1745 NW 16th St. Check the Facebook page for details and the Events listings for times and dates.

Mom2Mom Global is a nonprofit worldwide network of breastfeeding support and advocacy for military families.  Their purpose is to provide consistent, high-quality peer support through local chapters and liaisons at U.S. military installations, to increase access to accredited lactation professionals for all military families, and to provide a channel to raise awareness and solutions for the concerns of military breastfeeding families.
